If you need help lodging your tax return, you may be eligible for the Tax Help program. Blackheath Area Neighbourhood Centre is offering the Tax Help program from the 5th of August until the 28th of October 2019. Bookings are essential, please call BANC on 4787 7770 to book.

General Information: Tax Help is a network of ATO-trained and accredited community volunteers who provide a free and confidential service to help people complete their tax returns online using myTax.  

Are you eligible for Tax Help?

You are eligible for Tax Help if your income is around $60,000 or less for the income year and you did not:

  • work as a contractor, for example a contract cleaner or taxi driver
  • run a business, including as a sole trader
  • have partnership or trust matters
  • sell shares or an investment property
  • own a rental property
  • have capital gains tax (CGT)
  • receive royalties
  • receive distributions from a trust, other than a managed fund
  • receive foreign income, other than a foreign pension or annuity.

What can our volunteer help you with?

Volunteers can help you lodge your tax return or amendment online or claim a refund of franking credits.

If our volunteers work out that you don’t need to lodge a tax return, they can help you complete a non-lodgment advice.

Remember to bring these to your appointment:

  • your myGov user ID and password
  • your mobile phone to receive your myGov access code
  • your bank account details (BSB and account number)
  • your tax file number
  • an original or amended notice of assessment from any one of the last five years
  • income statements from all sources
  • all your receipts for gifts, donations and work-related expenses
  • details of any child support payments made
  • details of any losses on investments in shares and rental properties (net investment losses)
  • details of your spouse’s (married or de-facto) taxable income or a reasonable estimate if you had a spouse at any time during the financial year.

The benefits of belonging to a support group include: Feeling less lonely, isolated or judged. Gaining a sense of empowerment and control. Improving your coping skills and sense of adjustment. Talking openly and honestly about your feelings. Reducing distress, depression, anxiety or fatigue. Developing a clearer understanding of what to expect with your situation. Getting practical advice or information .Comparing notes about resources.

BANC would like to offer our meeting room and support to anyone who would like to start up a local support group on any topic/issue. Please call Jade Wednesdays and Thursdays on 4787 7770 to discuss the options.

Did you know that we now have a drop-in service here at BANC on Wednesday mornings for help and advice with technology? If you’re having issues with your phone or any other device, bring it in to our centre on Gardiner Crescent between 9-30am and 12 noon and Simon from Cyber_Shed will help you out with it. No appointment needed.

Dear friends,
Banc is looking for volunteers to help out at reception here at our HQ in Gardiner Crescent. If you have a free 3 hours from 9-30 til 12-30 on either a Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday, we would love to have you on board! Duties include; being a friendly and compassionate face to greet visitors, answering phones, light admin, petty cash. If this sounds like something you’d like to do, please call us on 4787 7770.

Blue Mountains Chemical Clean Out.

On May 11 from 9am until 3.30pm, The NSW Environment Protection Authority will be holding a Household Chemical CleanOut event for the upper Mountains. It will be held at the Katoomba Waste Management Facility on Woodlands road, Katoomba.

Bring your old and unwanted household chemicals along and they will dispose and/or recycle them for you, for free.

Not sure what to bring along?

You can drop off household quantities of:
* Paint, strippers and varnishes
* Pesticides, herbicides and poisons
* Solvents and household cleaners
* Motor oils, fuels and fluids
* Batteries
* Gas bottles
* Pool and hobby chemicals
* Fluorescent globes and tubes

Knitting Course at BANC

The Blackheath Knitwits are holding a ‘Learn to Knit in 5-weeks’ course at BANC starting Friday, June 7. This class is good for beginners as well as those who put their needles down years ago. Highly experienced teacher. For further details call or text Mel on: 0450 704 494.


The Blackheath Knitwits are a knitting group that meets in the Ivanhoe pub dining room area every Tuesday at 2pm. There they knit various items for community services and charity groups such as ‘Thrive’ family support service, ‘Wrap With Love’, Junction 142 and Soul Kitchen. If you’d like to join in, head on down and meet new friends while knitting for some great causes.
Donations of knitted 25cm/10 inch squares, yarn, or completed rugs are also happily collected.
