Lindena, our hostess, came up with the idea of the Welcome Table after moving to Blackheath eleven years ago. Through her own experience, Lindena became aware of how vital feeling included and having a sense of belonging in your community was to wellbeing. The Welcome Table enables this sense of inclusion by providing a casual, safe environment where friendships and social networks can develop.
The Welcome Table happens once a week.
Fridays 3:30pm – 5:00pm
Blackheath Bar & Bistro on Govetts Leap Road.
Host of the table is Lindena 0410 310 205
You may be new in town, or you may like to contribute to welcome others. You may just fancy meeting up with some kind friendly faces, buying a coffee and having a laugh.
The Welcome Table provides an opportunity to chat, welcome newcomers, share stories and experiences about activities in the community.
Some of the things people have to say about the Welcome Table:
“The wonderful friendship shown by Lindena and the other members has made a tremendous difference to my well-being. I have felt really welcomed into the community, and I now look forward to the weekly social gathering together with people who manifest the essence of this unique village. I am very grateful to Lindena in particular, and to the members and supporters of this support group.”
“The Welcome Table was a ‘welcome surprise’ when we recently moved to live in Blackheath. The group are friendly, informative, and entertaining, giving newcomers an insight into the local community and the wealth of interesting activities available in the area. The informality of the table means that we can ‘drop in’ for a cuppa and have company and friendship whenever we have the opportunity on a Friday afternoon. We think the Welcome Table is a great concept, not just for newcomers to the area but for anybody in the community who wants to get out and enjoy the friendship of those at the table”
“I immediately felt welcomed into the small group of locals and newcomers. It was relaxing with a coffee and information about local events and places to go for activities and groups to join. I feel very much a part of the local community now and have come to know several people whom I now call friends and this is mostly due to those introductions and enjoyable times at The Welcome Table. I have also come to learn that Blackheath is a friendly place and people are helpful and that spirit is certainly evident at the gatherings on Friday afternoons.”
“Not only does The Welcome Table provide a get-to-know-others platform, but also a social network that serves the most wonderful purpose of support. Keeping an eye out for each other is not always easily achieved in a society where busy lives don’t facilitate such an outcome. A Welcome Table forum provides just such an opportunity and does so in a pleasant, non-intrusive and friendly way.”
